Piano teacher grant winners 2025
Dr. Chia-Lin Yang
Lecturer of Music-Piano, UC-Santa Cruz
Piano Faculty, San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College
Dr. Chia-Lin Yang, lauded for her “touch of poetry that eludes so many pianists,” is a distinguished performer and educator. A recipient of the Hellen von Ammon Fund for Emerging Artists and the Doug Davis Composition and Performance Award, she has toured extensively across the U.S., Canada, and Taiwan. Her accolades include top prizes at the Seattle International and Kingsville Competitions, with appearances at Benaroya Hall, the Banff Centre, and broadcasts on WQXR. She has also premiered works by composer Matthew Schumaker, contributing to the advancement of contemporary music. A passionate chamber musician, she co-founded the Verve Trio, the Gold Prize winner at the 2022 Amadeus International Music Awards, recognized for their innovative programming and musical finesse. Dr. Yang holds Master’s and Doctorate degrees from Indiana University, where she studied under André Watts and Evelyne Brancart. She currently teaches at UC Santa Cruz and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where her students regularly earn top honors and festival invitations

Amy Zanrosso
Amy Zanrosso’s playing has been described as expressive, magnetic, and masterful. Thanks to her attentive Italian immigrant mother, Amy began piano lessons at the age of six. By fifteen, she had made the bold decision to dedicate her life to music.
As a soloist, Amy has performed with the Santa Rosa Symphony, Symphony of the Kootenays, Russian Chamber Orchestra, Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra, Symphony of the Redwoods, and Kensington Symphony Orchestra. Her deep love of chamber music has not only allowed her to connect more intimately with her favorite composers but also to collaborate with countless inspiring musicians and share that joy with appreciative audiences.
Amy is currently a faculty member and chamber music coach at both the Pre-College Academy of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and The Nueva School in Hillsborough, California. She is continually energized by her brilliantly inspiring students, whom she gleefully introduces to her favorite composers and lovingly tells what to do. Special thanks go to Beethoven and Brahms for fueling her journey. She wouldn’t change a thing.

Diana Fleming
Diana Fleming maintains a large community service presence in the greater Seattle, Washington area, where she teaches and volunteers in support of a variety of community music programs. She holds multiple advanced music degrees from Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, Washington, and Boston University in Massachusetts. Diana is a certified music teacher through both the U.S. national certification program and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada.
She is the founder of the Fleming School of Music, a women-owned private music school located in the heart of downtown Issaquah, where she currently teaches piano, music history, music theory, and performance to youth. Her passion is engaging students in community music programs and events where they can showcase their talents with friends and family. The Silicon Valley Open Doors (SVOD) International Piano Competition is precisely the kind of program Diana values, and she prepares her students diligently to participate.
Diana Fleming has created a multigenerational legacy with the Fleming School of Music. Alongside her daughter and granddaughter, this stalwart community volunteer sustains the institution with vast experience and a deep love for music education. The school has become a cornerstone of the local music community, dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering a lifelong love of music.
Beyond the classroom, Diana maintains a strong presence throughout the Seattle area, where she actively supports music initiatives through both teaching and volunteer work. She brings her students into opportunities that allow them to grow as musicians and individuals—experiences that celebrate music as a shared, joyful part of life.

Dr. Chia-Yin Lin
Dr. Chia-Yin Lin is a dedicated musician and educator, currently serving on the piano faculty at both De Anza College and Foothill College in California. She holds a DMA degree in Piano Performance from the University of Washington, where she studied with Craig Sheppard.
Dr. Lin is an active performer, lecturer, chamber musician, and frequent adjudicator for piano competitions.
While her students have consistently achieved top honors in regional and national competitions, her goal as an educator is to inspire students to reach their full potential. She nurtures students’ passion for music through deep listening, creative exploration, and strong musicianship, guiding them toward both artistic growth and a joyful connection to music in their lives.
